Balangan Beach
about 60 minutes
A long strip of pale sand under a low cliff, lined with bamboo warungs and surfboard racks. The viewpoint at the top of the stairs is the photo everyone comes for. Quieter than Padang Padang most days.

Bingin Beach
about 75 minutes
Warungs and small guesthouses stacked down a cliff path to a strip of white sand and a famous reef break. The walk down is steep, the walk back up is the workout. Best at low tide when the sand opens out.

Suluban Beach
about 60 minutes
A cave beach under the cliffs at Uluwatu, reached by stairs and a squeeze between rock walls that open onto the sea. Photographers love the arch. Only really there at low tide, so your driver will check the tide table.

Uluwatu Temple
about 75 minutes
A small sea temple perched on a limestone cliff seventy metres above the surf, with a walkway along the cliff edge that looks straight down the coast. Late afternoon is the best light. Keep sunglasses and loose bags out of reach of the monkeys.
