South Bali · Sightseeing · 4 stops · about 9.5 hours
The classic south Bali afternoon: two very different beaches, the cliff temple at Uluwatu, and the kecak fire dance as the sun drops into the sea. Short drives between everything, so there is time to swim as well as look.
The trip, stop by stop
-
Padang Padang Beach
about 60 minutes
A short cove reached through a gap in the rocks and down a narrow stair, which is half the fun. Small, sheltered and good for a swim between stops. It fills up by mid morning, so earlier is calmer.
Rain plan If it rains:
-
Melasti Beach
about 75 minutes
The road down is carved through white limestone walls and is a sight on its own, ending at a wide flat beach with clear water. There is space here even when the rest of the Bukit is busy. Bring a hat, there is very little shade.
Rain plan If it rains:
-
Uluwatu Temple
about 75 minutes
A small sea temple perched on a limestone cliff seventy metres above the surf, with a walkway along the cliff edge that looks straight down the coast. Late afternoon is the best light. Keep sunglasses and loose bags out of reach of the monkeys.
Rain plan If it rains:
-
Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu
about 60 minutes · Rp 200.000 per guest
Your driver waits outside here; you go in on your own.An hour of chanting, firelight and the Ramayana story performed in an open amphitheatre on the cliff as the sun goes down. Your driver buys the tickets on arrival; on very busy days we go a bit earlier. Sit high up for the view of the sea behind the dancers.
Rain plan If it rains:
This trip uses 3 of your 3 slots. Lunch is a stop too, but it does not use a slot. Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu is in the evening slot, after them, and does not use one either.
