Mountain Lakes, Gates and a Waterfall

Rp 1.800.000 for 2 guests · Rp 900.000 per person from Rp 600.000 per person for 4

North Bali · Photography · 4 stops · about 7.5 hours

The north Bali highlands in one run: the lake temple that looks like it floats, the free standing gate in the hills, a swim at the twin waterfall in the forest, and the viewpoint over the twin lakes to end the day.

The trip, stop by stop

  1. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

    about 75 minutes

The temple that appears to float on Lake Beratan, built to honour the goddess of the water that feeds the rice fields below. It sits at twelve hundred metres, so the air is cold and the mist comes and goes. Gardens around it are flat and easy.

    Rain plan If it rains:

  2. Handara Gate

    about 30 minutes

Photos here are by the place's own photographers (sold there), not by your driver.

A free-standing split gate with mountains behind it, at the entrance to a golf course in the highlands. Five minutes, one photo, a small fee. Queue moves quickly.

    Rain plan If it rains:

  3. Banyumala Twin Waterfall

    about 120 minutes

Two falls sliding down a mossy rock face into a wide shallow pool that is one of the best swims on the island. About twenty minutes of steps down through jungle and longer coming back. Go before the buses, it is small.

    Rain plan If it rains:

  4. Twin Lakes Viewpoint

    about 30 minutes

A pull-in on the mountain road looking down on Lakes Buyan and Tamblingan side by side, split by a thin strip of forest. Clear early, cloudy later. Coffee stalls at the edge of the car park.

    Rain plan If it rains:
