North Bali · Sightseeing · 4 stops · about 8.5 hours
The quiet north coast: Bali's largest Buddhist monastery on the hillside, the hot springs below it, the flat black sand at Lovina, and the old Dutch harbour at Singaraja that almost nobody stops at.
The trip, stop by stop
-
Brahmavihara Arama
about 45 minutes
Bali's largest Buddhist monastery, terraced up a hillside with a copy of Borobudur's stupas and a view down to the north coast. Quiet, swept and orderly. Shoulders and knees covered.
Rain plan If it rains:
-
Banjar Hot Spring
about 90 minutes
Three stone pools in a garden, fed by sulphur springs through carved naga spouts you can sit under. Changing rooms and lockers on site. Warm water in the rain is no hardship.
-
Lovina Beach
about 75 minutes
Calm black sand on the north coast with no surf at all, a dolphin statue on the pier and outrigger boats lined up on the beach. The dolphins are offshore at dawn. From land this is a quiet swim and a sunset. Warungs along the sand.
Rain plan If it rains:
-
Singaraja Old Harbour
about 45 minutes
The old Dutch port of north Bali, now a promenade with a colonial warehouse row, an independence monument and cafes facing the water. Flat, shaded and ten minutes of history. Rarely on anyone's list, which is part of the appeal.
Rain plan If it rains:
