Jatiluwih Terraces and Tanah Lot Sunset

Jatiluwih Terraces and Tanah Lot Sunset

Rp 1.800.000 for 2 guests · Rp 900.000 per person from Rp 600.000 per person for 4

West Bali · Sightseeing · 4 stops · about 10 hours

Two UNESCO sites and the best known sunset on the island. The museum explains the thousand year old water system first, then you walk it at Jatiluwih, see the royal temple at Mengwi, and end on the rocks at Tanah Lot.

The trip, stop by stop

  1. Subak Museum, Tabanan

    about 45 minutes

A small museum about the thousand-year-old water sharing system that runs Bali's rice fields, with models of the canals, old tools and an explanation of how the temples decide the water. Indoors and quick. Useful before or after Jatiluwih.

  2. Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

    about 120 minutes

Six hundred hectares of terraces on the slope of Mount Batukaru, listed by UNESCO and still farmed by the subak system. Marked walking loops run from twenty minutes to two hours through the fields. Much wider and much quieter than Tegallalang.

  3. Taman Ayun Temple

    about 60 minutes

The royal temple of the old Mengwi kingdom, a walled garden surrounded by a moat with a row of tall thatched towers inside. You walk the outside of the walls rather than entering the inner court. Flat, shaded and never crowded.

  4. Tanah Lot Temple

    about 90 minutes

A temple on a rock in the sea, cut off at high tide and walkable at low, with the most photographed sunset on the island behind it. The cliff path north leads to a second temple on an arch. Busy from four in the afternoon.

    Rain plan If it rains:

This trip uses 3 of your 3 slots. Lunch is a stop too, but it does not use a slot. Tanah Lot Temple is in the evening slot, after them, and does not use one either.
